10 Mar Laugh About It
There is a scripture that says, “Laughter does good just like a medicine.” Proverbs 17:22
Recently Richard and I had a delightful evening with mutual friends of ours. One friend and her husband who were visiting us made an incredible crawfish bisque; all homemade with ingredients brought in from Louisiana.
I made the side dish, brussel sprouts with pancetta and pear and our other girlfriend (a pastry chef) and her husband brought ingredients over for some of her amazing pecan tarts.
During dessert, we all went around the table and each shared some jokes. Mine was the worse because I kept changing the details! Every story was ridiculous. It was so much fun that we all broke out laughing even before we could get out our punchlines.
One of our guests laughed so hard he started to cry. Can you remember when you laughed like that with friends?
One of the main reasons that I encourage ladies to gather; is because it’s so good for the soul. We need other people in our lives to encourage us, to uplift us and sometimes to remind us that life isn’t as serious as we make it. It is amazing how much stronger we feel when we all get together in a room and leave the cares of the day outside.
Sometimes you just need to hear yourself talk, other times you need to get an honest opinion or seek deeper wisdom. But sometimes what you need is to just relax and have some fun.
In those moments together sharing food, conversation, corny jokes and vulnerability, everything else will seem insignificant.
Share a meal when you can; talk, listen to one another and by all means smile and share laughter. There is strength in our diverse testimonies, especially when you have a joyful spirit and an open heart.
It’s true that laughter is like medicine. Try it and you will feel so much better.
